District Treasurer

 

Job Description:

  1. Assist the District Governor in Developing his district budget.
  2. District Finances:
    • Create special accounts for each District Project
    • Place carry-over moneys into District Project accounts.
    • Properly transfer/disburse moneys from District Project Accounts.
    • Send notice of District Project Account transactions to District Project Chairs.
    • Record all deposits and check transactions.
    • Write checks as approved by the District Governor
    • Deposit District checks in a timely manner
    • Prepare check deposit reports for the District Governor
    • Prepare District financial statements at the request of the District Governor.
    • Prepare District financial statements District Cabinet Meetings.
    • Provide necessary cash for District Functions especially the Mid-Winter Convention.
    • Collect Mid-Winter checks/moneys in a timely manner
    • Provide separate accounting and reporting for Mid-Winter convention contributions.
    • Provide financial statements for the Mid-Winter Convention.
    • Have all financial records audited annually.
  3. District and Multiple District dues:
    • Prepare and mail semi-annual dues invoices to all District clubs.
    • Split club dues into proper accounts.
    • Track club dues payments.
    • Send semiannual checks to MD5M for semi-annual dues.
  4. Present a workshop for Club Treasurers at the District New Officers School of Instruction.
  5. Keep a record Federal 501-C3 Information for all projects and provide it to the clubs as needed.
  6. Record and forward checks to the Lions of Minnesota Charitable Foundation.
  7. Keep records and process Geographical Assistance Funds requests for your District.
  8. Meet with the incoming treasurer to pass on all district financial records and train the new treasurer on the position prior to the beginning of their year on July 1.  Include the new District Governor if possible.

Qualifications:

  1. 3 to 5 years of membership in Lions Clubs International.
  2. Has served as President or Secretary of his/her Lions Club and/or experience in other club offices.
  3. Having previous service on the District Governors Cabinet (Zone Chair, Region Chair, etc.) is useful.
  4. Has attended at least one Multiple District Convention, the USA Canada Leadership Forum or International Convention.
  5. Has basic accounting background.
  6. Computer skills and understanding of word processing, spread sheets, database, Internet and web sites is essential.
  7. Good understanding of Lions Clubs International and of his/her District.
  8. Effective speaking skills to present financial reports at District meetings.
  9. Desire and ability to work with other Lions and Lions clubs in his/her District.
  10. Time available to perform all of the duties of the position.
  11. Ability to take part in Leadership Development programs in his/her District.
  12. Ability to attend zone meetings, district meetings and Mid-Winter Conventions.
