District Leadership Development Chair

 

Job Description:

  1. As quickly as possible meet with the Past District Leadership Chair to review the results/success of past leadership initiatives in the district, determine what is needed during the next year and acquire any training materials that he/she may have assembled during their term as District Leadership Development Chair.
  2. Prior to the start of your year, meet with the District Governor-Elect to plan the leadership emphasis areas for the new year, develop a strategy for leadership training relating to district needs:
    • District officer and program chair training
    • New officer training (club level)
    • Plan Leadership Development workshops and forums (Date and Topic) for the District.
  3. Develop an annual District Leadership Development Plan and Budget Proposal and deliver it to the District Governor and District Cabinet prior to the first District Cabinet meeting.
  4. Advise the MD5M Development Chair of leadership development plans and needs within your district.
  5. Develop a plan-of-action for your work as District Leadership Development Chair.  What materials and presentations do you have to assemble?  Will you conduct all training yourself or will you involve others (who?)?  How will you advertise your plans?  Will you directly contact each club president and determine their needs?
  6. Assist your District Governor with district officer and club officer training.
  7. Assist District officers, clubs within your district and individual Lions to develop and improve their leadership skills.
  8. Plan, organize and deliver Leadership Development workshops and seminars within your district.
  9. Assemble (organize existing materials or create new materials) leadership development materials that are required to accomplish items 1 through 3.
  10. Coordinate leadership development activities with your District New Clubs and Membership Chairs.  Coordinate with them the development of meetings, workshops and seminars.
  11. Involve previous District Leadership Development Chairs, Past District Governors and other qualified Lions in the development of leadership programs.
  12. Attend and take part in MD5M Leadership Development training.
  13. Support the work of the MD5M Leadership Development Chair.
  14. Report plans, plan progress/accomplishments and budget status to your District Governor and District Cabinet prior to each Cabinet Meeting.
  15. Attend district meetings and conventions.

Qualifications:

  1.  Comprehensive understanding of Lions Clubs International and of his/her district
  2. Credibility with the Lions of the district.
  3. Desire and ability to work with others in leadership development
  4. Effective presentation skills (i.e., public speaking, workshop presenter, etc.).
  5. Time available to develop and assist with leadership initiatives.
  6. Willingness to commit to a three year term
  7. Ability to attend zone meetings, district meetings and Mid-Winter Conventions.
  8. Ability to attend a leadership workshop and training sponsored MD5M.
